Step 1 Phone consultation
The garden design process begins with a complimentary 20-30 minute phone consultation, where I take the time to understand your specific needs and vision for your outdoor space.
This initial conversation provides valuable insights into your project and helps determine the best approach moving forward.
If you feel my services align with your requirements, the next step is an optional on-site visit.
This allows me to assess your property in person and further refine design concepts to suit your landscape.

Step 2 Site visit and in-person consultation
The next step is a comprehensive 1-hour on-site consultation, during which we'll explore your garden's full potential and discuss your vision in detail.
You'll have the opportunity to ask questions about your outdoor space while receiving immediate, actionable advice and discovering exciting possibilities for transformation.
After our meeting, you'll receive a detailed written proposal that summarises our discussion and outlines potential design directions.
The consultation fee is $395.00 (inc GST) for an average size town garden and $660.00 (inc GST) for larger properties and includes:
Travel within Armidale town boundaries - For properties outside town boundaries, additional charges apply for both travel time and fuel costs.
Expert horticultural and design consultation
Comprehensive written proposal
This investment provides you with personalised, professional guidance and a concrete plan tailored to your specific garden and needs—creating the foundation for a successful outdoor transformation.
Step 3 Custom proposal
Following our consultation, I'll carefully collate all the information gathered and prepare a detailed proposal for your project.
The design fee is tailored to your unique space, taking into account factors such as your property size, site complexity and topography, and the intricacy of the design required.
I'll email you a comprehensive written plan outlining the full design process, which you can review at your leisure.
At this point, the decision is entirely yours: you can choose to proceed with the project or not.
My approach is to offer possibilities, not pressure, ensuring you're comfortable with every step of the process.
Step 4 Survey and analysis
If you decide to move forward with a design, the next step is to return the signed quote and contract, and schedule an appointment for a site survey and analysis.
Please note: As part of the garden design process, I require clients to provide accurate site information before we begin the design phase.
While I'll conduct a visual and photographic assessment during our initial consultation, a professional land survey may be necessary for your project.
This survey should include property boundaries, existing structures, elevation changes, utility locations, and detailed contour mapping for gardens with significant slopes.
Having this information prepared in advance ensures accuracy, prevents construction issues, and creates the best foundation for your garden design.
Obtaining this survey data is the client's responsibility and should be completed prior to any detailed design work
This detailed analysis ensures that the final design will be perfectly tailored to your specific site conditions and needs.
Step 5 Concept Design creation
Using specialised Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, I create an accurate top-down view of your garden, showcasing a detailed layout of garden beds, pathways, and structures.
This concept plan forms the core of the design, focusing on the overall layout.
To bring the vision to life, I supplement this with visual elements including photographic mood boards, colour palettes, plant selections, and material choices.
The result is a comprehensive, personalised design document that reflects your unique style and preferences.
This detailed presentation allows you to visualise the full potential of your garden, ensuring that the final design aligns perfectly with your vision and the site's unique characteristics.
Step 6 The Master Plan
This phase of the design process delivers a set of comprehensive blueprints for your garden's construction.
These detailed technical drawings serve as a precise roadmap for bringing your garden to life. Each CAD drawing includes accurate measurements for garden bed areas, exact placement instructions for all elements, and detailed materials schedules and specifications.
These annotated plans provide all the information needed to faithfully execute the concept design, ensuring every aspect is constructed as envisioned.
Whether you choose to work with a professional landscaper or undertake the project yourself, these blueprints offer clear, actionable guidance.
They empower you to transform the design from paper to reality with confidence, guaranteeing that the final garden matches the detailed vision we've crafted together.
Step 7 Planting Plans
Drawing on my dual training in horticulture and landscape design, I create intricate, scale-accurate planting plans tailored to your unique garden.
Using advanced CAD software, I develop detailed layouts for each area, enabling precise placement and measurements.
Your customised package includes exact plant location diagrams, comprehensive species schedules with specific requirements, and aftercare guides.
This meticulous approach, rooted in both horticultural knowledge and design expertise, ensures not only an impressive initial design but a thriving, evolving garden for years to come.
